I'm/we're still processing the weekend adventure that is called Marlay Craft Fair. We had a fantastic next booth neighbor that I named Laura the Soap Lady. Juli, Jo and I are exhausted, better educated, exhausted and we did have a good time all-in-all. We changed our original set up three times and sold a fair amount of products. We got 3 or 4 invitations to enter more craft fairs but all I want to do right now is lie down.

It didn't last very long, but approximately 1 out of 10 people at the American Military and European Missions retreat in Rothenburg, Germany contracted a stomach bug. I just have to say that the weather was gorgeous for Uncle Steven's time here. As you can see from the pictures, we had to take off our coats at the Giant's Causeway. Today while traveling home on the Dart, a young mom, her three-year-old-ish daughter and baby in a stroller were trying to disembark at a certain station. The little girl wasn't paying the best attention/following instruction very well and it looked like the doors were about to close before they could exit. A teenage boy wearing skinny jeans, unlaced Keds, a plaid shirt and a snood (headgear that kind of stood out to me) stepped over, held the door and made sure the family could get on their way without being squished. Someone raised him right. The mom was thankful of course but it made me think that often kindnesses like that get overlooked. Then I remembered: "Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." Mt. 6:1,3 and 4.

This morning someone, who shall remain nameless, locked the keys in the boot while loading his golf clubs. After going to city centre to get a spare from the previous owner, discovering said spare is not the right key and then getting a lift from a friend to baseball practice, Scott called in the big gun. Our neighbor Sebastian came over after work, broke into our car and retrieved the keys. He said, 'It only took 6 minutes to break in.' (That makes me feel better.) He found that the problem is a burned up motor in the lock. He will now get the replacement part/fuse/whatever to really fix it tomorrow. We are so thankful to have friends and neighbors who come to our rescue!

Wow! Northern Ireland is beautiful and inexpensive, comparatively speaking. We stayed in a former pajama factory in Bushmills. We toured the Bushmills Whiskey factory for educational purposes of course. Bailey pointed out that part of the production line incorporated an Archimedean screw. Yeah for home education! Wednesday we visited the Giant's Causeway, walked across the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and saw the Dun Luce castle. Thursday we came home after making a stop at the Banbridge outlet mall. I scored a skirt and capris at the Gap for £8.38 and Davis got some new shoes at Nike for £15. Bargain shopping rocks especially when it is in £ and not Euro. Throughout the 4 days we had great times of Bible study and discussion as a team. Mainly we had a lot of fun together before our autumn activities get rolling.

I know most of you who read this blog already know that Bonnie and Tyler were married last week, but for those of you who don't know, Bonnie and Tyler got married! Scott was very honored and blessed to be able to officiate his first ever beach wedding for these dear friends of ours. Afterwards, he and Corey flew to Miami to catch two Cardinal games. (Thanks to Hunter for the great tickets.) After a 24 hour delay he came back to us with 4 heavily loaded bags. Fabric! Chocolate chips! Vanilla extract! Fabric! Clothes from Grandma! Fabric!

Last week my attempt to machine quilt was thwarted by an electrical short in the wire of my foot pedal. I refrained from panic, looked for my warranty information and emailed the company from whom I bought my machine. 'Russell' responded right away and said he would contact Pfaff. Pfaff sent the part directly to me and I got it today! Let me just say, 'Wow.' It is amazing what no short in the wire will do for the speed of the needle. I cranked right through the remaining quilt like a hot knife through butta'. Woohoo!!

All those many years of flipping hamburgers before Tuesday night devo came in handy last night at a youth event put on by the Peters' church for teenagers in the Skerries area complete with loud, very loud music (we're old), soccer/futbol, ballroom dancing (Bailey and a friend), and just plain hanging out. The American youth group came over 2 weeks ago or so to put on a VBS, do service projects and youth events in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Scott and I were head and sous chef, respectively. He flipped the burgers and I turned the hot dogs. It's amazing what power you hold with a spatula and tongs in your hand.

Another one of our Friday night cookouts went well. We had good food and a great game. Jo and Craig have given these nights a new name: Baldoyle Block Party or BBP for short. Kind of mysterious, right? I think it fits.

We also discovered that we have a plum tree in our back garden. Last year, no fruit. This year, plums. Really good plums that are just now ripening. Yippee!

Please join us in prayer for Jared, Lexi, and Corbin Cobb at the passing of their one month old son and brother Carver earlier this week. Lexi was a former student and intern of ours at the U of A. Super sweet, close knit family and friends will be walking with them through this grief. We thank God for eternally healing and holding sweet Carver in His arms.

I saw someone I know at Tesco! Mirza Davis lives very close to Tesco and told me she goes there often. Well, yesterday I actually saw her there. I never see anyone I know while out shopping. That lends to a certain anonymity but also to a little loneliness in a sea of people. The other shoppers probably thought I was a little crazy for getting so excited about seeing another person. After hugs all around it was on to shopping. Yeah for seeing Mirza!

awesome hot pink/rusty bike that Bailey found in the ditch by the Dart line? No, well one day last summer, Bailey was lamenting the fact that we had not bought her a bike yet. We prayed about it and talked about how we wanted to be good stewards of the things God gives us. We were hunting for blackberries near the Dart tracks (don't worry, large fence with spiky things at the top prevents us from reaching the best blackberries and getting killed by the train) and found a ditch that people throw trash into and also have campfires. Really. We looked down and saw a child's size bike that was in fairly good condition considering its predicament. Yeah God! I went home and ~~made~~ asked Scott to fetch it. Bailey was super excited! We put up flyers in the Dart station to make sure no one was missing it. After a couple of weeks we decided it was all hers.

C-razy people.

Flash forward to two Sunday nights ago and here comes Hyejin baring an awesome, new silver bike that she can't take back to Korea which she proceeds to give to Bailey. Awesome! Hyejin also had a 3/4 size guitar for Davis. Double awesome! Hyejin is a precious friend that we so enjoyed getting to know while she was here taking English classes. She flew back to South Korea last week to join her family and Jinhwan where she will finish her university degree. We will miss her so much! Thank you Hyejin for all your kindnesses. God bless you!

p.s. There was no wind that night on Howth. I couldn't believe it. The wind is usually very strong especially on the hill. If the weather was like that all the time, then I wouldn't have anything to complain about taking
the 'hill walk' around Howth.

Yesterday rain, cold, wind. Today warm wind, warm temperature, bright sun. It must be Jo's fault. She is working on her tan in a softball blitz today filling in for Juli who is in County Mayo. Bailey spent all day with Annette and Annette's grandchildren, Davis helped paint Karolina's Clubhouse/glorified shed, Scott is in County Clare playing baseball, and I went to quilt guild, came home and sewed three pillowcase dresses. It's been a good day.

Last night we started what we hope will become a weekly tradition of Friday night dinner and board games with our neighbors and the friends we have made through our conversational English classes. The Smiths, Hutsons, Robert, Angela, Izzy, 2 of Scott's students and our friendly Lidl cashier Justina came. Scott invited Justina just yesterday afternoon when he was purchasing 2 card tables. She has never seen us in Lidl at the same time but when she came in our house she said, 'I knew it was you!' How, the accent? 'No, because you both have such a peaceful look on your face. Peace on the inside. Everyone else comes in with a frown or they are tired, but you are smiling and happy.' I'm not a huge public crier but when she said that, I was touched to know that God is working through me even when I am frantic to get all my groceries in my trolley before I have to punch my PIN into the machine. 'Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways.' 2 Thessalonians 3:16a

After dinner and dessert some of us played Apples to Apples, some played Scrabble (Thanks Angela for beating Scott!) and Uncle Craig wrangled the 4 little girls for us. Good times.

Thanks to the fine folks at the Department of Finance and Administration, I have in my possession a new Arkansas driver's license only 24 days after mine officially expired. Did I look at that expiration date before we left for Ireland? No. Did I slightly panic in March when I realized it was this year? Yes. Was the woman at the aforementioned state office kind enough to give me all the information over the phone? Yes. They even sent back my original birth certificate and marriage license! Will I be posting my dreadful, 7-year-old picture on this blog? Not on your life. Do I feel better now? You betcha.

Our team is blessed to have the best support system here in Dublin through the Ranelagh church. One of the most gracious is Annette Grant. Selfless, kind, thoughtful, compassionate, caring, strong, big hearted to name a few adjectives. Annette has stepped in to watch the team kids while the team adults teach conversational English on Tuesday evenings. I feel confident leaving Davis and Bailey with Annette and Ritchie because I know they are being loved and (hopefully) learning from this beautiful couple. We are so blessed to be counted among their friends!

We went to the Dingle Peninsula for the first time Wednesday. The scenery is breath taking! A little windy, but awesome. The aquarium was fantastic, the food was good and the company wasn't bad. Dad drove on the right side of the car and left side of the road on the way home. I think that's what you call payback for trying to teach me how to drive, lo these many years ago. Speaking of teenagers, Davis will turn 13 tomorrow. Now I'm officially old.

We hiked at Glendalough in the pouring rain last Wednesday but from Thursday on the weather has been glorious. Seriously, in the low to middle 70s with full sun and light wind. My inner gardener might be coming out.
Sunday night we had a visitor at home worship come up from Wexford to do a gig Monday evening. Her name is Kara Dubose and her band is called The Light Parade. They are awesome. Check them out on their website: thelightparade.com.
We also had the rare treat of being with Dale and Vicki Hawley (their son Caleb was on American Idol this season!) who did part of our training with MRN. Dale is on sabbatical this year and has been doing research on families from the States living abroad. They have been based in Heidelberg, Germany but have been on a world tour of sorts the past month or so. They went to Africa for three weeks, came here, left for Paris, will visit the Olomouc team and will go some other places too I'm sure. We are thankful they came here to talk with and encourage us over a 5 day period. Thanks Dale and Vicki!

We got to throw Hyejin a birthday party yesterday after team meeting. There were some tears but it was all good. Bailey did some serious decorating and made Hyejin a paper chain with different names of Jesus on each link. Merschon used her mad cake making skills once again for a beautiful chocolate castle. Hyejin loves Japanese animation so we named it 'Hyejin's Moving Birthday Castle.' Shout out to Mr. Kevin, Ethan and Derrick for introducing Bailey to Japanese animation too.

Really, it's Babe and Hazel but when I was little that is what I called my great aunt and uncle once and it stuck. Saturday evening Uncle Babe passed away after a battle with cancer. He and my Grandpa looked the most alike out of the 7 Bailey boys and whenever I saw Babe I could see my Grandpa again. He will be sorely missed and I ask that you join with me and many others in prayer for Aunt Hazel and the whole family.

Along these same lines, please pray for Mr. Clyde whose beautiful, sweet wife Georgine passed away Saturday evening as well. I'll never forget one of the first Lifetalks we went to at their house where everyone went around the circle stating their name. Georgine said, "My name is Georgine." Pause. "My Dad's name was George." Perfect comedic timing. Please pray for Clyde and the Central church as they mourn the loss of this wonderful woman.

We had a wacky Valentine's Day this year by taking a trip to B & Q. Think Lowe's and Home Depot but with Euro prices. Instead of the obligatory one dozen long stemmed roses we got Bailey an Orange Dream rose bush. Davis got a pear tree and a hacksaw to whittle wood. I got some nesting pots to paint and plant, a hanger for a flower basket and 2 bushes for the front garden. Scott got to borrow a shovel to dig holes. Mr. Pat (two doors down, not to be confused with Mr. Pat next door) came over to help drill holes for the hanger today. It takes a village, people.

This week our team was at the airport a lot. Our good friend Jinhwan left Tuesday for South Korea after a year of English study here in Dublin. We were able to throw him a going away party in conjunction with our Sunday night communion devotional time. We are sad to see him go but look forward to staying in contact with him through Facebook and Skype. Jin's girlfriend will still be here through June so we ask you to pray for the rest of her time here and that we can build a stronger relationship with her during that time.

On Wednesday most of us went to the airport again to welcome Jo for a two week visit. We are super excited to have her with us. We all needed face to face communication.

The Smiths got to go to the airport 3 times this week, twice in Dublin and once in Shannon. Their pulpit minister, mission committee head and friend Roger was here for a week but was delayed getting home because of snow in New Jersey. Shay's mom couldn't get here until Friday because of a snow lay over in New York plus she was rerouted to Shannon. At least Shay got to drive there in his new- to- them 7 passenger van. I see some more road trips in our future.

Bailey and I got to sit on the sideline a lot this week because of a virus she has had. We are getting a little stir crazy. Her fever has gone away and now we are dealing with an inhaler for a croupy cough. She has been perfecting her Wii skills much to the chagrin of Davis who would like to skip school too.

Ski Trip: the Remix

Instead of 100 college students, various adult-type people, Henry Moore, 7 church vans, several SUVs, a couple of trucks, the King Electrical trailer, tons of food from Sam's Club and a partridge in a pear tree, our ski trip 2011 consisted of 4 Americans, 2 South Koreans and the German Alps. We had great weather with lots of sun which made for an easier learning environment but not a lot of powder to shred through.
Day 1: The Bourne Idiocracy
After an "on-time Ryan Airflight", we took a taxi to the train station. We had some time to kill so we ate across the street at Doner Kabob, a little pocket of Greece in the heart of Memmingenburg. Then we picked the brain of an Australian guy who now lives in Lindau. Bailey had an interesting conversation with him:
"Are you Irish?"
"No." Pause.
"Are you British?"
"No." Pause.
"Are you South African?"
"No." Pause.
"Are you American?" Pause.
"No, I'm Australian."
"Oh."

We changed trains 3 times and made it to Sonthofen where we took another taxi to Fishen where we got the key to our lodge and then on to Schollang. Our taxi driver was great and got us there safe and sound. The whole day felt less like Jason Bourne and more like Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Day 2: Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth

We got up from our Fred Flintstone beds and ate lunch at a cafe near our lodge. (Three words Germany: Memory Foam Mattresses. I'm just sayin'.) Then on to Oberstdorf for ski rental and skiing! Bailey was super excited and stayed that way on the gondola but soon dissolved into frustration and defeat. Scott tried his hardest to teach her but all she heard was yelling. Perception is reality people. I walked back up to the gondola (ouch!) with her and we turned our skis in for the day. After 14 years of not skiing, it came back to me pretty quickly. The T-bar threw me into the rocks but I finally got the hang of it. Score: Mountain 1. Bailey 0.
Day 3: Nothing's Going to Stop Us Now

Monday we went to another ski slope that had more green runs. Bailey tried the big mountain at first, but we walked up to the gondola again to get back down. After lunch Bailey practiced on the bunny slope and got her confidence. Davis and Scott had been helping Jinhwan and Hyejin and they were all pleasantly surprised that Bailey wanted to try again. We all made it down in one piece but I decided to call it a day and turn my skis in for good. If Momma breaks a bone, ain't nobody happy.
Day 4: Austria Bound

There are no Longhorns in Germany but there are Razorbacks!

20 minutes from Oberstdorf gets you to Austria and some awesome snow. I camped out with a book and apple streudel at a cafe across from the ski lift and watched our group tear up the slopes. Everyone had a great day and came away tired but happy. Ski Trip Success!
Day 5: Schollang Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Good Bye!
Yesterday Germany got some major snow while we were leaving but we had the train system by the horns and got to Memmingen airport in time for our flight home. It is good to be home.

I'm glad we got to continue our Christmas Eve tradition with this slight variation.

We have had some interesting weather here the last 4 days including snow, sleet, hail, rain, sun, thunder and lightning, usually occurring within minutes of each other. Early Saturday morning the lightning hit the Dart line and hail froze on the streets. Sunday morning church services were canceled because of the snow. Monday we got enough snow to build part of an igloo and several snowmen. Today sleet was the main culprit of keeping people inside. The kids have loved it!

This past weekend we traveled as a team to the European American Retreat in Rothenberg, Germany. We caught up with old friends and made new friends too. It was a blessing to be with other missionaries serving in Europe, as well as military and civilians living in Germany. We ate too much, stayed up too late, and got lost too many times on the way to our bed and breakfast in Freudenbach. We hope you have a great Thanksgiving day!

No, not the gross kind of hurling. I'm talking about the Gaelic game of hurling. The one that involves slitters (the ball), sticks, and thankfully shin guards and helmets with face protection. Davis had his first game this past Saturday. I can imagine someone watching baseball for the first time would be as confused as I was watching hurling. How many players are on the field at a time? No idea. How long can you run with the ball in your hand? No idea. How many points do you get for passing it though the uprights as opposed to the net? No idea. Watching your son getting hit in the helmet with a slitter? Priceless.

I know that a lot of time passes between my posts, but this time I have a good excuse. I have been fasting from the internet this week in solidarity with some of my team mates to spend time in prayer for a supporting church for Jo. Okay, it is the wimpy way out but someone needs the energy to keep this house running. I did get plenty of time to think about Jo and how God is going to get her here. Some great reading, quiet time and sewing got accomplished too. On Thursday I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at the RDS, where incidentally Bon Jovi will be playing in June 2011. "Shot through the heart and you're to blame, darlin' you give love a bad name." Anyway, I was one of at least a thousand people there buying fabric, yarn, books, ribbons, buttons, and mops. Mops? I can't really say bad things about people who buy mops at craft shows since my friend Deanna and I did the same thing last December in Huntsville. Good times. I bought myself a Christmas present and some other fabric before I made a bee line for home.

In other news, our friend Jocelyn was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes on Thursday. She is doing great at the hospital while they learn all there is to know about JD and work on getting her sugar number down. Dannon and Gabe spent the night with us and will trick-or-treat with us later this afternoon. We would have gotten an extra hour of sleep last night because of the time change but Bailey wasn't feeling well at 4:30 AM and Gabe is an early riser. Sick kids are kind of like babies in that their bodies don't tell them they get another hour of sleep and to take advantage of it. I can feel a nap coming on...

Apparently Scott got some slack recently for saying fall instead of autumn but you can't say 'Happy Autumn Ya'll' if you are trying to rhyme. This season has been very beautiful. We picked blackberries yesterday but ran out of jelly jars last night. I guess it's cobbler from now on. The Maguire clan invited us over for homemade pizza last Saturday night. (Notice the stone pizza oven built by Mick and Peter--impressive.) No, not home inspection, although Scott probably thought that was what we were trying to pass with all the cleaning I was doing and wanting him to do. We passed the Education Welfare Board interview with the very nice Sarah who assessed us on our ability to home school our children. It turned out to be easy peasy, lemon squeezy. (And yes I do know that peasy and squeezy are not actual words.) We did find out that if we wanted the kids to attempt the Irish leaving certificate through the school system, that home school is not an exemption for knowing Gaelic. Clearly, we won't be teaching them Gaelic so now our options for a high school diploma have been narrowed down to exclude taking the Irish exams through the school system.

On another note, the Ellis family will be adding another person to their family tomorrow when Jess marries Rob. Be praying for a great day and a wonderful marriage. Congrats!

We went to Tipperary this past week with our team for a little relaxation and bonding time. On the way we stopped at the Rock of Cashel and on the way back we toured Kilkenney. Autumn is in full swing here and the leaves are beautiful. Earlier today, Scott umpired the Baseball Ireland Little League championship game. He almost threw out one of the coaches. Maybe they won't ask him to fill in again. Since the Mariners were short one player Davis got to fill in for center field and caught an amazing pop fly. Tonight Scott and I met some baseball friends at the only Cajun restaurant in Dublin, Tante Zoe's. I had blackened catfish and Scott ordered 'the best jambalaya he has ever had.' It was certainly a bright spot on this rainy Saturday. Next stop: their favorite Japanese restaurant. Once again, enjoy the pictures.

So we broke down and got two new bookcases from IKEA. The original bookcase was looking sad and beginning to fall apart. Bailey and Davis also got new bookcases out of the deal. Basically, we walk into IKEA, they hand us furniture we didn't know we needed and we come home and put it together. In more productive, less costly news, Merschon assisted me in making 3 batches of blackberry jelly and they are yummy. I also got a baby quilt mailed to its recipient. Last night our Korean baseball friend came over and made some great food for Scott and our house guests, the Meyer family. They are visiting with us from Portugal where they are in language school before heading off to Angola early next year. Please be in prayer for their team as they live, learn and move to Angola.

After reading Julia Wright's missionary journals from Fiji this past year, I thought we might escape the trials of spotty electricity, crazy tropical weather and water issues here in Dublin. I was wrong. Sponge baths only go so far in the comfort department. Never fear, Robbie the Plumber came to our rescue this evening and we are better for it. Or breaking child labor laws. The wall between us and our fantastic neighbors was looking a little sad. Amanda suggested at the beginning of summer that we should get the kids to paint it. So, the day before school started back up we did just that. There's nothing like the last minute. Our sidewalk, fence, bushes and clothes are a little worse for wear but the wall looks great! On a more important note, the Hutsons arrived last Wednesday! We are super excited for them to be here and get settled. (And it is not just because they went blackberry picking with us in Deer Park last night.) Now just one more to go and then our team will be all together in one city for the first time. Please pray that God will reveal Jo's sending church soon.

We, the Karnes family plus Mom and Grandma Betty, went to view the Cliffs of Moher and lived to tell the tale. I was a little nervous about the official barrier we were told that would keep children from flying off the side of the cliff. I needn't have feared since it consisted of a 4 foot high flat rock fence extending both directions for several hundred feet. Of course some people refuse to be Suzy Safety and went around the barrier to get the full (or fool) experience. The only frustrating part was trying to get to the cliffs around the bicycle race detours we encountered. The GPS was not very happy with us and the feeling was mutual.

We went to the West for Davis to play in a baseball blitz put on by the Kilrush Dolphins. The Gruffaloes traveled the greatest distance and walked away with 2 big wins. We also visited Lehinch. Apparently this is the best place in Europe to surf. Brr, no thanks! We were blown away (pun not intended) by the beautiful vistas off of Loop Head, the most western point of Ireland. One of the local pubs claimed it was the last pub before you get to New York City. Grandma Betty got to see the rock walls she wanted to see and we all had a good time together.

A Little Q and A

Question: What do you get when you cross 4 women, a temperamental GPS, a very narrow country road, a guy on a horse, a wide tractor, a semi truck and trailer, a horse trailer, some guys on bikes, one lane bridges, left side of the road driving and no shoulder on the road?

Answer: A nervous breakdown, that's what. I might take up smoking and/or drinking after today's adventure.

Grandma Betty, Mom, Bailey and I dropped Scott off at the baseball field in Greystones this morning and headed off to Glendalough. After much biting of fingernails and lighting of church candles (not really) we made it in one piece and so did the car. The weather was gorgeous and the view was spectacular. To give you some background, Glendalough is the site of an ancient monastery founded by St. Kevin (Google him) in the 600's. Yeah, 6 zero zero. Although we did not make the hike around the lakes in the mountains as Davis did with Jo and Fintan earlier this year, we had a great time being together. We got back to the baseball games in time to see the Spartans win their second game of the day. My driving baptism with fire is over for now.

Early Tuesday morning Strider and Tiger Lily took a fateful ride to the vet office for 'the surgery which shall not be named.' Strider was less traumatized than Tiger Lily due in part to the fact that he did not have to wear the cone of shame. We are supposed to keep the cone on her for 2 weeks. Not going to happen.

Yesterday we took the Grandmas to Kilkenny, Ireland to look at our second castle of the week. The first was Malahide which is about 5 minutes from our house. Kilkenny is about 1 1/2 hours south/southwest of Dublin. The drive was beautiful and so was the town.

Today I drove the Grandmas to Tesco. Before we left Davis wanted to know what he would inherit in case we didn't make it back. He's grounded. No one was injured in the process and we got back alive.

Even though Bailey and I didn't stay at camp the whole week we really enjoyed ourselves. It wasn't freezing cold, we saw the sun a couple of times and the counselors and staff were great! I will really miss being in the kitchen with David and Fiona. Bailey made two new friends, Maeve and Laura, that are her age and have compatible personalities. It looks like we will both be going back next year for the whole shooting match! Enjoy the pictures.

After 8 days in the forest of Northern Ireland, Davis came home! He had a blast, learned some new annoying camp songs, made new friends, ate like a king, saved up his spending money to buy Legos in Newcastle and was voted by the counselors as Mr. Jr. Camp Shamrock. What an honor- especially on his first time out. Our team mate Shay said the voting was based on whether the camper set fire to anything or not, if they didn't use swear words or get caught smoking cigarettes. We are so proud. Next up Bailey and Denise head off to girls' camp. Pray for us. Seriously.

Our team mates, the Smiths, have been staying with us as they search for an apartment. We have had a great time with them even amidst their stress of finding a place to call home. Today they let an apartment in Raheny, just a couple of miles south of Badoyle. For me that means less quality time with Ashlyn. For them it means no longer living out of suitcases and being able to let their hair down in the privacy of their own home.

So, in the wee hours of the morning I heard the continuous 'ping, ping, ping' of water hitting metal. Our bathroom's own version of water torture. Very quietly I got out of Baileys bed, took the shower head down from its hook and placed it in the tub. I turned around and saw Shay coming down the hall. I wanted to make sure he knew I was there but not wake up anyone else so I whispered, "Shay." Well, he jumped out of his skin and said, "You scared the crud out of me!" Then he ran back to bed. I didn't know that his sisters used to do things to scare him and that wasn't my intention but I felt bad anyway. Then I giggled and continued to do so after I went back to bed. One for the memoirs.

Wednesday, 3 out of our 10 team members arrived safely in Dublin. It is so good to be with the Smiths especially Ashlyn, aka my favorite team member. Shay and Juli have been out beating the bush looking for the ideal place to live and do ministry. We will keep you posted on their progress but for now we are happy to be sharing meals, bedrooms and bathroom space with them. I'm pretty sure Ashlyn has already said Aunt Denise.
